i was kept up quite late last night by some GIMP-ing of some postcards for an upcoming show in october. though, things were moving quite slow, and i had a case of writers block… long story short, i was noodling at my desk while waiting for inspiration to hit. though, instead of twiddling my thumbs, i was drumming them; somewhat loudly, i guess.
the knock at the door was, in a word, unpolished. it was, as anyone can guess, my downstairs neighbor coming to complain about the noise. while the hour wasn’t debatable (12:30am is a bit steep for any noise whatsoever), the amount of noise i was producing certainly was. follow these instructions:
- place foot flat on ground
- raise heel about an inch, whilst keeping toes and ball of foot securely on floor
- lower heel with light force.
does this seem noise enough to condemn a man? nay. apologetic to the Nth degree, i explained i was in a flow and didn’t mean to be making that much noise and was very sorry to have woken her. to this, she replied, “oh.” and walked away.
in a confrontation (even a polite one), leave any vacant blank like this lady does and most people will fill it in with “bitch.”

super mario RPG was released on nintendo’s virtual console a week ago yesterday. this was the first rpg i had ever played, so there’s a lot of nostalgia flowing through my brain at this time and juncture. but, like viewing your 5-year-old version’s favorite movie, this are falling short. very, very short.
what i learned after this game had bitten me with the rpg bug, is that it’s a light-weight affair; not that much to manage, your inventory is only 30 items deep, not much in the way of customizable options, etc. everything is on a very, and i hate this fact since nintendo needs to shed this image, kid-friendly. though, the story is quite epic, things otherwise couldn’t really shake loose a short bus if it tried.
granted, the fact that this game got me into rpg’s really says something. and the fact that i followed the game up with the legendary chrono trigger can only make it seem a bit dwarfed in comparison. though, if you’ve never played, do dive in. it’s only $8.00 (800 points), and it’s well worth it given the scope of the story.
