repost: ‘prog rock’ 0

this is a total repost as imeem sucks and won’t allow the post of an entire song. so, without further ado…

in a nels-ian moment, i am posting an awesome song (you may recognize it from a film trailer i linked to previously). i find myself having a softspot for these kinds of songs; minor chords that end up sounding like they were ripped right out of the boroque period mixed with heavy D&D rock. total nerd fest.

please to enjoy

Welcome Home – Coheed & Cambria

’9′ by Shane Acker 3

i haven’t wanted to jinx this movie (along with others that are coming out sooner) so i’ve been a bit hush about the whole thing. but now that the trailer has come out, i feel i can express my excitement for what it’s been for the past year and a half.

’9′ is a short film directed by Shane Acker while he was attending UCLA for animation. it’s garnered so many awards and honors i’ll spare you the laundry list, but suffice it to say that it deserves every one of them. not simply for the intricate storytelling, but also set design, animation (moreso the physics and weight of everything than the top par quality), and art direction. it’s really great stuff.

well, as most star pupils do, he attracted the attention of Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov along with Universal Pictures. Together, they’re adapting the the short into a feature length film. Yes, it hardly ever works, but given the richness of the original short this may turn out to be an exception to the rule. so please bring it on.

but, before you head over to watch the trailer, please give the original short a glance. (i highly recommend hitting ‘HQ’ in the lower righthand corner for better quality if your connection allows it).
