i’ve been waxing and waning on how often to treat myself. this isn’t limited to the sugar realm, but also to the “free night” and “money spending” variables. two nights ago i stayed in for one of the first times in weeks. no rehearsals, no appointments, and no hash marks on the productivity meter. i watched Ratatouille, which is awesome, and then played Aquaria, which is also awesome.

but, 10:00pm rolled around, and i realized i hadn’t done a damn thing with my entire evening. i felt horrible in a lazy sort of way.

it’s not that i was a couch potato for 6 hours then slept, it’s just that i didn’t produce anything creative; i didn’t let my mind speak, i just made it listen. is this bad? once in a while, probably not (and i need to convince myself of that). but it only strengthens my resolve to do more things which, in turn, gets me into scheduling and free time trouble. balance, balance, balance. hold the phone…

starting around 6:00pm, i started browning some turkey, unsure of what i would make with it. i ended up making manicotti. give me a more involved dish. that’s an accomplishment. so, i guess i did make a very complicated meal, that i didn’t end up eating till 11:00pm due to me having a hair appointment cancel on me. that’s a little productive, eh?

it rained like hell yesterday. success!

met and shared a delightful beer with john paul tonight at the new acadia cafe. we started planning something. i can’t say what, but it’s gonna be great. i’ll give you a hint: santa clause and sharks.

i think my current favorite phrase is “fuck that noise.” my buddy tim said it to me one day in response to a very long winded email i sent him. the brevity and course nature of it was really brilliant. so, like any true artist, i stole it and now try and say it once a day.
