i had recent computer misadventures with the folks at a small shop called General Nanosystems. long story short, they fried my motherboard. i’m writing from my newly updated laptop which is now my main computer. and i’m not sure why i didn’t do this before, as it’s about 5 times faster than my desktop.

a stern talk with the manager today and i’m getting a replacement motherboard for free. score and a half.

hopefully with addition of adobe’s creative suite 4 will make this the little laptop that could.

this new blog writing software is the bee’s knees. seriously.

i’m going to be globe-trotting in a minor sense over the next month. i get to be in London for Guy Fawkes Night. bonfires, carnivals, and more explosives than you can shake a stick at. expect stories and pictures.

on a globe-trotting note, i finally have access to the pictures i took when i went to the british isles for two months. expect a giant flickr album soon.

remember, remember the 5th of november.

i find it very odd that my blog is, hypothetically, read by everyone i know. in actuality, it’s probably not. but the opportunity is there.

with my pending adventure, i’m faced with a quandary that will make me dive into an online phenom that i’ve tried to avoid: self-promotion.

not that i’ve never told people about what i’m doing, where i live, where i work, etc. it’s just that i really don’t like talking about the “what i did that day” aspect of things. i find it boring to write, it can be boring to read, and the transparency of such things make me incredibly nervous. you think perverts just stalk myspace and facebook? think again…

the whole “online pain” thing that livejournal started back around 2000 really put a bad taste in my mouth; just because you can say something doesn’t mean you should. and i realize the very page you read at this second could be an argument for that point, thus making this whole blog null and void, but i digress: i’m hardly trying to express some hard and fast opinion. i just like to observe.

so, where do things go when all people tune into the blog for is updates about “what i did that day?” well, i guess we;’ll see.

or you will, for that matter.

it was bound to happen.

aside from every waking moment of my being having been wrapped up in travel prep, i have found a proper amount of time to give the utmost props to this prince: fred beukema.

fred has had the pleasure of being the, at the time of this writing, THREE-DAY CHAMPION on Jeopardy. today’s episode, which i unfortunately missed, was the most exciting as fred squeaked by with a victory to be what Alex Trebek called “the real deal.” Alex Trebek. The Real Deal. fred beukema is now untouchable.

fred and i have been buddies for a while now, and i, in all honesty, have never been so happy for someone. if anyone in my life deserves it, it’s the beukemas. congrats fred and melissa. now buy me this.

kidding… kind of.

attention everybody! 0

dig it! and by ‘dig it,’ i mean to look up at the web-address: you are now at http://rabidlime.net! this shindig is it’s own entity now, so adjust your bookmarks and readers properly (click here to add this url as a feed).

and to google readers: go to the site, just for a second or two; it looks pretty good.

you’ll also notice a new menu bar at the top. this is not an original idea, as Adam Lisagor has the same thing on his tumblr. plus, he gave me props, so i figured a good ‘thank you’ would be to rip off his idea. but, without further ado, onto the bloggies.

i started a vimeo page and put a bunch of stuff onto it. watch away, and there’s more to come.

i took notice yesterday in how friendly i am towards people, though this is just on the ‘no, after you’ level of things; i don’t bound around downtown handing out flowers and kisses on the cheek. but i was struck also by how i seem to be the only one ever saying hello to people i don’t know. it’s not as if i’m a social butterfly, i’m actually quite awkward around people i don’t know. this breach in personal etiquette, i think, can be attributed to my comfortability in being absolutely helpless (enter the improv and all that). overall, it’s a skill i’m happy to have (or not have, whichever way you look at it).

i, thanks to the terrific fred beukema, got the chance to play through Shadow of the Colossus. and i’m pretty sure i’ve written about this game before, but it really is something that merits repeating.

the game overall, is masterful. the game succeeds in several departments that normally get overlooked; storytelling, escape, experience, presentation, etc. but it’s the culmination of all these parts that make the game such a memorable experience.

if you ever get the chance to give it a play-through, please do. you shant regret it.

it’s so gloomy and awesome outside. i love it.

i was scolded by wikipedia. i did have photographic evidence of this. however, the comp i’m on crashed and had to be rebooted before i could get it up. so you’ll just have to believe me.

Mark Rein, part of the upper crust over at Epic Games, has a history of being a serious d-bag towards pretty much everything. watching this behavior for sometime, i have periodically updated his wikipedia page to state as such. but then, today, the game came to an end.

i was sent a message (my active IP address) stating that it was “hardly mature” what i had typed and that i should “consider the foundation that wikipedia was built upon.”

this changes nothing. mark rein is still a serious d-bag.

i was was doored today (lightly, but still doored), and told to get on the sidewalk. it’s illegal to bike on the sidewalk. i really don’t know where these people come from.
